synIRC gladly welcomes all offers of linking servers. However, for performance and stability reasons, we require that servers and their admins meet certain criteria:

Minimum Server Requirements

• Must run a unix-like OS, e.g. Linux or BSD
• At least 1 GHz CPU
• At least 256 MB of RAM
• 1 dedicated static IP address
• At least 1000 client connections
• Ports 6660-6669, 6697, 7000, and 7001 must be open publicly
• Additional ports for server links must be allowed from certain IPs
• Time synchronized via ntpd.
• Hosted in a data center with connections to at least two different network backbones
• Hosted with a provider that allows IRC.

Minimum Administrative Requirements

• Speak English reasonably fluently
• Have a registered nick on our network
• Available to monitor the server and make any necessary changes
• Have root access to the server to make any necessary system-level changes
• Follow the synIRC charter and network policies

If your server meets the requirements, we invite you to apply. When we receive your application, we will handle it as according to our test link policy. (This is outlined in section IV.ii.b of our network charter.) The purpose of the test link policy is to ensure that the server and its routing are compatible with our high standards for the network and to ensure that there are no incompatibilities between the server's administrators and the rest of network staff.
